Mini Movie

So for the final project we did a mini movie. Ours was titled Lunch Date. We got the idea a little bit from the new movie Date Night.  My partners starred in the film along with my husband and I did the shooting.  Shooting was challenging at times because the weather was not the nicest. It was cloudy and kind of windy out which made getting the sound right hard. We also did scenes inside so the surround noise could be a problem but it also helped add to the feel at times.

Editing was easier on this one then on some of the other videos.  We didn't use many effects. We really thought some of the jumpy shots added to the feeling of the video and what we were creating. We also didn't want  a lot of dialogue in the video and just let the acting and music do the talking. The opening was also something we thought would be different but still something like what they do in movies.

Hope you enjoy.

Cribs Video

For our cribs video we did Samantha's apartment. It was really fun taping her going through her place trying to do things like on cribs. We both really enjoyed working on this video because weird camera angles and lots of effects were more acceptable. I was able to get some video where I was twisting the camera around and then Sam sped it up in the editing so it looked really cool. The challenge we had was that we had too much footage. I video taped a lot of her talking plus we did a lot of b-roll type stuff. We both felt we just had really good footage but too much of it.

My two favorite parts our the Car and then in Sam's closet. The music we put to those scene's and the way it was edited makes it look really cool. Samantha also added some bloopers at the end with the credits which I thought was really clever because we had a lot of them.

Hope you enjoy our version of cribs.

Complex Monologue 2

Oh the technology we have these days. I was able to finish editing my video on the road on the way to Colorado.  I had a fun time editing and taping this video. I sped up a portion of my video for the first time. It took me a while to figure out how to do it. I also used a lot of the other effects I learned earlier. I put in transitions, text, audio and then a picture over my voice. I am still trying to figure out the different effect. It can be frustrating when you can not really preview the effect before it is in your video. I am still trying to figure it out and how best to determine what will look good.

Have a good Easter and enjoy the video.

Profile Project

Working in a group for the profile project was nice.  It was nice to get a different persons point of view and ideas.  It was helpful too if one of us was taping that the other person could be thinking or looking for different shots. It also helped to have different ideas during the editing process because in my group we are completely different with our views and ideas so it was nice to hear and see how someone else goes about working.

I really liked how our project turned out. We were able to get a lot of good b-roll. We were able to go to a practice and also to the costume shop while they were working on costumes.  They also were always playing show tunes in the background so we didn't need to add music to our b-roll because the music fit perfectly.

Enjoy!!

Effects video

For this assignment I shot samantha talking about her weekend. The video wasn't as important today because we were working with the effects.
The other elements of Final Cut Express have come much easier to me then using and figuring our the effects. I chose to do black and white on one portion and then
different borders on each frame. I played around with several different effects but there are so many to choose from. I feel like the more I use the effects and the more
I am able to play around with them the better I will get at them. It was a little frustrating because I had to keep rendering my video every time I changed something or
added something to my clip. This makes it so I don't always want to add or change more effects.

I like using the different effects I just need more practice at it.

Complex Monologue

This week for my monologue I talked about the TLC show "Say Yes to the Dress".  I didn't know what to do at first at first but then I was watching the show and thought why not? I was even about to incorporate my own dress shopping experience into my monologue which made it more personal.

I was also able to incorporate everything I have learned thus far in the course. I used transitions, audio, scrolling text, and b-roll. I had to adjust the decibels of the background music to be lower so that it would not be distracting or louder then me talking. I also made it so the music would be louder when I had the text going and no one talking. I am able to edit and put in transitions and move things around a lot faster and easier. I also like doing everything more now then I did in the beginning.

Hope you enjoy the video.

Expert Video

For the expert video, we did Colby Seifert who considers himself to be an expert on Indiana Jones movies.  Colby had so much to say about all the movies it was hard to figure out what was important enough to put in the video.  He is able to quote most of all the first 3 movies. He knows the most about the 3rd one, The Last Crusade, because it is his favorite.

During the editing process, I was able to add in new elements that were not on the other videos.  I added transitions between the different movies and an audio transition at the end so the music would fade out as the video did.  I also added audio from freeplaymusic.com which I had not done before.  Another new element was shooting and adding the b-roll.  I added a clip of the movie cover of the particular movie he was describing over the video of him so you could see the movie cover but still hear him talking. I also learned how to put scrolling text at the end of the clip in order to do the credits.

Enjoying learning about Indiana Jones!

Midterm Monologue

For my monologue, I choose to talk about the season finale of The Bachelor that will air tonight on ABC. This is the first season that I have watched the show from the beginning.  It all really started because I was bored waiting on my husband to get out of class so I watched the first episode on the internet. I was pretty much hooked from there.  It has turned into one of the shows I watch every week and I am excited to see what happens tonight.

So far I have learned a lot in class.  I came in knowing pretty much nothing about video editing/production. I really like to play around with the different effects and learning how to add more into the video to make it more interesting.  The transition tool is something I have gotten the hang of pretty well, the simple ones at least.  Spacing the text on the page such as the lower third or scrolling text is something that I am still playing with and trying to figure out but I am getting there. I am looking forward to learning more as the semester goes on.  I know I will be able to use this information outside of class too even if it isn't for a job.  I have videos from vacations, my wedding, etc. that I have not done anything with because I didn't know how but now my family is going to have the coolest home videos, as long as I find the time to edit them all.

Hope you enjoy my video.

Interview

For class this week, we interviewed a classmate using 3 basic questions that our instructor gave us. The interview went really smoothly for me.

This week in Final Cut Express I learned how to add a text screen to my video feed. We were able to add the question in text on a black screen before we had the person answering the question. I thought it was really cool and can't wait to figure out how to change the background and the text, adding more effects. We also learned how to put that little box on the bottom of the screen with the persons name like they have in the professional videos on the news or documentaries. It was a lot easier to add some of the effects into your video stream then I thought it would be.

I look forward to more challenges and new finding to come in this class.
